LUMA is available as a native desktop app for macOS. Get quick access to your finances without opening a browser.

#Features

The desktop app provides the full LUMA experience:

  • All dashboard features
  • Time tracking with native notifications
  • Quick access from your menu bar
  • Offline access to recently viewed data
  • Native keyboard shortcuts

#Installation

  1. Download the .dmg file
  2. Open the downloaded file
  3. Drag LUMA to your Applications folder
  4. Open LUMA from Applications
  5. If prompted about an unidentified developer, go to System Preferences → Security & Privacy and click "Open Anyway"

#Sign in

When you first open the app:

  1. Click Sign in
  2. You'll be redirected to sign in via your browser
  3. After signing in, you'll be returned to the desktop app
  4. Your session stays active until you sign out

The desktop app runs in your menu bar for quick access:

  • Click the LUMA icon in the menu bar
  • Quick view of today's tracked time
  • Start/stop timer without opening the full app

#Time tracking

The desktop app is great for time tracking:

#Start tracking

  1. Click the LUMA menu bar icon
  2. Select a project
  3. Click Start

Or open the full app and use the timer as usual.

#Notifications

Get notified when:

  • You've been tracking for a long time (optional reminder)
  • A timer is still running at end of day

Configure notifications in the app settings.

#Keyboard shortcuts

Shortcuts can be customized in Settings → Keyboard.

#Updates

The desktop app updates automatically. When a new version is available:

  1. You'll see a notification
  2. Click to download and install
  3. Restart the app to apply

You can also check for updates manually in the app menu.

#Troubleshooting

#App won't open

If macOS blocks the app:

  1. Open System Preferences → Security & Privacy
  2. Click the General tab
  3. Click Open Anyway next to the LUMA message

#Sync issues

If data seems out of sync:

  1. Check your internet connection
  2. Try signing out and back in
  3. The app syncs automatically when online

#High memory usage

If the app uses too much memory:

  1. Quit and restart the app
  2. Check for updates (newer versions often improve performance)

#Uninstall

  1. Quit LUMA
  2. Open Finder → Applications
  3. Drag LUMA to Trash
  4. Empty Trash

Both the desktop and web app provide the same features. Choose based on your preference:
